Why


Creating a DEIB page in your employee handbook is essential for several reasons:

  1. Cultural Alignment: It reinforces the importance of diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging within the company's culture. Highlight the role these principles play in shaping a positive and inclusive workplace.
  2. Talent Attraction and Retention: Explain how a strong commitment to DEIB can attract diverse talent and improve employee retention rates. Share data or studies showcasing the benefits of diverse and inclusive workplaces.

In this section, outline the key components that should be included in your DEIB page:

  1. Diversity: Describe your company's commitment to fostering a diverse workforce. Explain what diversity means to your organization and how it extends beyond race and gender to include various backgrounds, perspectives, and experiences. Why is it important to you.
  2. Equity: Define the principles of equity and fairness in your workplace. How do you address issues related to pay equity, promotions, and access to opportunities.
  3. Inclusion: Highlight the significance of creating an inclusive work environment where all employees feel valued and heard. Provide examples of inclusive practices, such as AMAs, leveraging different communication mediums, aynch AMAs or mentorship programs.
  4. Belonging: Explain the concept of belonging and how it goes beyond inclusion. Share specific approaches / rituals you adopt for creating a sense of belonging among employees from diverse backgrounds.

  1. Leadership Commitment: Stress the importance of visible and consistent leadership commitment to DEIB. Encourage leaders to lead by example and actively support DEIB initiatives.
  2. Clear Policies/Guidelines: Advocate for clear and concise DEIB policies that outline expectations, consequences for violations, and mechanisms for reporting concerns.
  3. Training and Education: Emphasize the role of DEIB training and education in promoting understanding and awareness among employees. Provide resources and references to relevant training programs.
